Nancy Newton

Nancy Newton is a Toronto based artist and has been exhibiting her mixed media drawing and paintings over the last twenty-five years. She majored in Fine Art at Western University and graduated with an honours degree from York University. Her work can be found in corporate and private collections in Canada, United States, UK, Europe and Australia.

Over the years, she has been involved in the local arts community as an educator at the secondary level for TDSB, facilitator for Exploring Creativity in Depth (Milkweed Collective) and Board member for Propeller Gallery (Treasurer) and Arts Etobicoke.

In the past, inspiration for Nancy’s work has come from spending time in dramatic Canadian landscapes and visually rich environments. The use of gestural mark making and the influence of music are prominent and weave in and out of her contemporary landscapes. Collage on paper provides a way of exploring and combining ideas from drawings and paintings using water based media.

Since 2012, Nancy has been primarily focused on interpreting one twenty minute composition entitled Dream-e-scape by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer. Interpreting the sounds and the essence of the musical piece has allowed her to explore space in an unfamiliar landscape.
